If you are a prophetically wired person, I guarantee there is someone the enemy has placed in your life to be the wet blanket to your raging wildfire. But look deeper, and you will see that they aren’t just the naysayer to your destiny. They can be the greatest threat to your pure calling. How? Because they are close to you and they make subtle comments and suggestions about your giftings, abilities, and dreams. They even go out of their way to either control you so they control the gift, or they squash you so you are silenced.

I grew up around a few characters like this in my family. Other family members celebrated these characters as caring and thoughtful. But they were not because on the inside the characters were insidiously controlling and dominating. It was a poison to me that I didn’t know I was ingesting because I didn’t know any different until God turned the light on. After battling this spirit for years as it came against my marriage from family controlling and constantly disapproving our every step and causing strife between Christy and me, I was done because nothing I did worked. Boundaries didn’t work. Trying to fix people didn’t work. Reasoning with this spirit didn’t work, so I asked God to show me what I was facing, and did He ever!

In a dream, I was in a spiritual realm that looked very much like a beach, but there was no color. It was just greys, black, white, and sepia. As I stood on the beach, I saw tentacles coming out of the water and snatching people up and wrapping around them before taking them under the water. Suddenly, a tentacle wrapped around me, but I held my ground, unraveled it, and began pulling this beast in one bit at a time until I was surprised to see an octopus with the head of a beautiful woman. She snarled at me and dragged me down a dark corridor full of prison cells with people suffering inside before I snatched my hand back and said, “No more!”

That season was a prison break season with instant results. I confronted the spirit in my life, and it unleashed my voice in a way I didn’t know was possible. It was like the ceiling above me was no longer there.

Just like in the Disney movie The Little Mermaid, where the evil octopus Ursula stole the voice of Ariel (meaning lioness of God), so too does this spirit want to steal the voice of the lions rising up to roar in the earth, but there has been an awakening and a prison break! Many emerging voices who have been stuck in the grip of her tentacles or chained in her lair are beginning to break out of confinement and speak up for the first time.
